Kōwhai Eatery

Kōwhai Eatery is a fantastic new addition to Ōtaki! The food is fresh and full of flavor, and the vibe is so inviting. I wish they had their own app or an improved online menu for a more swift order process—it would make things even easier! Definitely worth a visit!

Great place to have here in Ōtaki. Super friendly staff that are very welcoming. My children loved the French toast with the bacon and banana. The creamy mushrooms were delicious. The pies are amazing. Will definitely be back.

Customer service absolutely perfect, the atmosphere was fantastic and the food is incredible. The mince pie was the best tasting pie I’ve had in decades, I haven’t had a lamington square for over 30 years and it was delicious. Thankyou and I can’t wait to go back.

First time eating here, went for lunch with 2 others. Service was really friendly And the cafe was busy. Menu is fairly limited, lots of breakfast type foods. I had the whipped feta with spicy honey which was absolutely delicious. Mum chose a panini from the counter food and unfortunately it wasn’t toasted enough so was very stodgy - also not balanced inside I.e one side stuffed with cheese the other had none. Dad had a pie which was nice but he felt there weren’t many appealing menu items. Nice little cafe so think if they added to their menu would try again.

Incredible new place with fantastic food!!! The staff were amazing and friendly, and the coffee was incredible. Got the eggs Benedict, It was delicious, hash base was a great touch. Would highly recommend

Our family (my parents, wife, son, and niece) stopped in at Kowhai Eatery in Ōtaki today for brunch/lunch and had an awesome experience. The service was excellent—friendly, welcoming staff who went out of their way to help. My mum follows a keto diet and although the menu had keto options, she’d brought her own keto bread. The staff were more than happy to toast it and include it in her meal. Everyone’s food was delicious and very reasonably priced. There was a small mix-up with my wife’s and my meals (I ordered salmon, she ordered bacon, and we each got the other), but it was easily sorted with a quick swap. They even offered to remake the meals, but it really wasn’t a big deal. This was my mum’s second visit—she enjoyed it the first time too, which is why we chose to go today. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re passing through Ōtaki. Highly recommend!

Had an amazing time at Kōwhai Eatery! The Whittaker’s blondie was delicious, the beef burger and fries were some of the best I’ve had, and the staff were super friendly. Great vibes, clean space, and an awesome playlist (even heard some Jacob Collier!). Highly recommend!
